Cruise the River Through the City Center While Listening to the Boat Captain's Witty Commentary
About this spot
A roughly 30-minute river tour departing from the Matsu River Tea House in front of Toyama Castle Ruins Park. You'll slowly progress down the Matsu River, once the main channel of the Jinzu River, with entertaining narration from your guide. The scenery shifts with each bridge you pass under, and the view of the city from water level is completely different from walking the streets. Spring brings cherry blossom tunnels, summer deep green foliage—the river wears many seasonal faces. You can enjoy sweets at the tea house before or after boarding, adding to the food-exploration mood.
Tips
Boat schedules are limited, so secure your tickets first when you arrive, then explore the area. Operating days and times change by season, so confirm in advance. While the river breeze is pleasant, bring a hat on sunny days. Cherry blossom season gets especially crowded, so early booking is recommended.
Best time to visit
Allow about 1 hour. Midday departures have soft light and beautiful river reflections.
