About this spot
The summit park of Mount Umejō (梅丈岳) offering views of the Mihohgo Lakes and Wakasa Bay is Wakasa's finest scenic spot. Ascend the Rainbow Line driveway and travel from the parking area to the summit via cable car or lift, enjoying an aerial walk sensation. The terrace is lined with comfortable sofas where you can relax while gazing at a panorama where the five lakes each display different expressions. At the summit, selected as a sacred site for lovers, it's a classic date activity to enjoy pottery disc throwing and hot spring foot baths.
Tips
A toll fee for the Rainbow Line (toll road) and an entrance fee for the summit park (including round-trip lift/cable car) are required. Early morning offers the clearest air with the most beautiful lake colors and uncrowded parking. The summit is windy, so bringing a thin wrap is reassuring.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. Aim for the morning hours when the air is clearest for optimal scenic views.
