Search for local plum specialty products at the lakeside rest station and take a lunch break
About this spot
A roadside station on the shore of Lake Miho (三方湖), perfectly positioned for a rest break during a Wakasa sightseeing drive. The direct sales shop features fresh local vegetables and seafood, as well as processed products made from the region's famous specialty, Fukui plums—including pickled plums and plum juice. From the observation deck, you can enjoy views of the lake and mountains spread before you, and it's pleasant to look back at the mountain of the Rainbow Line you just drove. The Jomon Romance Park, home to the annual lamination museum, is nearby, making this a convenient hub for afternoon sightseeing.
Tips
Free parking with ample spaces available. Around lunchtime, check the shop for light meals and local fare; if needed, nearby restaurants are also good options. Since plum products come in a wide variety, selecting smaller sizes for comparison tasting makes for easier souvenirs.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. An ideal time frame for a lunch-time break and shopping.
