About this spot
A signature scenic spot of Karuizawa where groundwater flows like silk threads down a curved cliff face approximately 70 meters wide and 3 meters high. Since the water comes from groundwater that has seeped into Mount Asama rather than from the river, it remains clear even after rain, displaying a beautiful silk-like flow throughout the year. A short 5-minute walk along a clear stream path leads from the parking lot to the falls. You can get close enough to the waterfall basin to feel the refreshing mist during your photography.
Tips
The Shiratoru Highland Way is a toll road, so prepare cash for the toll. Parking is free, but it gets crowded before and after midday during peak seasons, so arriving in the morning is recommended. The walking path becomes wet and slippery in places, so wear comfortable shoes. The area around the falls is cool even in midsummer.
Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes. Morning is ideal, with dappled sunlight filtering onto the falls and fewer crowds.
