About this spot
A wooden suspension bridge spanning the Azusa River and the iconic symbol of Kamikōchi. From the bridge, you can see the Hotaka mountain range upstream and Mount Yake downstream—one of Japan's finest alpine panoramas all at once. At the foot of the bridge, hotels, restaurants, and shops gather, offering lunch and street food made with Shinshu mountain specialties and soft ice cream. Be sure to shop for souvenirs here too.
Tips
Restaurants get crowded before noon, so arrive early or grab takeout light refreshments to move more easily. The bridge area is the busiest in Kamikōchi. The bus terminal, restrooms, and shops are all here, so confirm your departure time.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. The Hotaka range looks beautiful in the afternoon with good lighting.
