Climb 220 stairs to the observation platform at 1,508 meters elevation for a grand panorama of the dam and Tateyama mountain range

About this spot

The observation platform at an elevation of 1,508 meters, from which to view the entire dam area from the highest vantage point. As you climb the 220 stairs one by one inside the tunnel, the view suddenly opens up, revealing a grand panorama: the sweeping arc of the embankment, the emerald-green Kurobe Lake, and the Tateyama mountain range stretching beyond. The sense of accomplishment in reaching the top is part of the experience, and counting the stairs with your children creates wonderful memories. You can also descend the outdoor stairs to visit the viewing area where you can see the spillway up close.

Tips

Since there are many stairs, wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a drink with you. Strollers cannot go up stairs, so baby carriers are recommended for small children. The observation platform has little shade, so a hat is comfortable in summer. Weather can change quickly, so bring rain gear as a precaution.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Early to mid-afternoon offers the most stable views before clouds settle on the mountains.
