Cross a suspension bridge over the Shogawa River to the UNESCO World Heritage settlement and enjoy views of the river and mountain village from the bridge

About this spot

A pedestrian-only suspension bridge approximately 100 meters long connecting the Seseragi Park parking area and the gassho-style settlement of Ogimachi. Serving as the gateway to Shirakawa-go tourism, as you reach the far end of the bridge, a row of thatched-roof houses spreads before you, heightening the sense of arrival at the UNESCO World Heritage site. From the bridge, you can take in the clear waters of the Shogawa River and the surrounding mountains—perfect for the first commemorative photo. The gently swaying suspension bridge offers an adventurous and exciting entrance for children.

Tips

If arriving by car, the standard route is to park at the Seseragi Park parking area (approximately 1,000 yen for regular vehicles) and cross the bridge. The bridge is fairly narrow, so move slowly with strollers during busy times. Early morning visits have fewer people, making it easier to take bridge-top photos smoothly.

Best time to visit

About 20 minutes. Around 9 a.m. is a good time to cross quietly before tour buses arrive
