About this spot
A Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple within the Shirakawa-go settlement, with both main hall and bell tower gate thatched with straw—a rare sight nationwide. The gassho-style monastery building is open as a folk museum, where you can carefully view columns and beams darkened by hearth smoke, and numerous folk tools supporting life in the snow country. Climbing to the roof interior offers a striking view of the gassho structure from inside. This is a place where temple and residential life blend together, offering a uniquely Shirakawa-go atmosphere.
Tips
Admission is approximately 400 yen for adults. The building preserves traditional construction with steep stairs, so ascend and descend carefully without rushing. Just a short walk from the Wada House, visiting both consecutively is efficient. The bell tower gate is one of the settlement's signature photo spots.

About 50 minutes. Afternoon light from windows provides good viewing conditions for folk tools
