Observe the Craftsmanship of Hida Artisans: Wooden Joinery and Joints Without Nails

About this spot

A cultural museum that showcases the techniques of the "Hida Artisans" who are said to have participated in the construction of imperial palaces in the ancient capital. The building itself was constructed by local craftsmen using traditional methods without nails. Inside, a hands-on experience corner allows you to touch actual models of joints and corner assemblies, and you'll be amazed by the puzzle-like precision of wooden construction. Visiting this museum alongside the street walk gives you a new appreciation for the architecture of the white-walled warehouses.

Tips

Admission is around 300 yen for adults. The wooden joinery puzzle is fun to tackle as a couple. Being indoors, it's easy to include in your itinerary on rainy days. It's just a short walk from Setogawa River.
