A 45-Minute Cruise Around Osaka Bay on a Sailing Ship, Enjoying the Ocean Breeze
About this spot
A sightseeing vessel recreated at approximately double the scale of the Santa Maria, the sailing ship famous for Columbus's Atlantic crossing, departing from the pier directly beside the Kaiyū-kan Aquarium. The day cruise circles Osaka Bay in approximately 45 minutes, and from the refreshing open deck, you can get a close-up view of the Tenpōzan Ferris Wheel, harbor cranes, and large passing ships. There's also an indoor cabin where you can sit and relax, providing peace of mind on windy days or when traveling with small children. The "view of Osaka Port from the sea," which is different from the aquarium experience, is a unique perspective possible only in this location. Taking commemorative photos on deck or waving at passing ships turns the 45 minutes into a grand small adventure for children.
Tips
The boarding location is at "Kaiyū-kan Nishi Hatoba" (Kaiyū-kan West Pier) on the west side of the Kaiyū-kan. Day cruises typically depart on the hour, so planning your exit from the aquarium accordingly minimizes wait time. Combo tickets with the Kaiyū-kan offer good savings. The deck is exposed to sea breeze, so carrying a light jacket is recommended even in summer to stay warm. The vessel has stairs, so a baby carrier is convenient for small children.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 45 minutes. Taking a departure around late morning after visiting the aquarium keeps the day's schedule flowing smoothly.
