Stroll through the park overlooking the green lake and bring your mountain village drive to a perfect close

About this spot

A multipurpose dam built on the upper Yura River, with Ono Dam Park—featuring a lawn plaza and walking trails—developed along its reservoir, Lake Niji (虹の湖). Known as a scenic spot for approximately 1,000 cherry blossoms in spring and maple leaves reflected in the lake in autumn, this peaceful recreational area also hosts seasonal festivals. A leisurely walk gazing at the serene lake reflecting the surrounding green mountains is the perfect finale to your mountain village drive. From the top of the embankment, the dam's scale and its discharge facilities impress children. The lawn plaza invites children to run freely, while everyone can relax in the refreshing breeze crossing the lake. Conveniently located on the return route from Miyama with free parking, it serves as an ideal cool-down stop before heading home—just right before the children drift off to sleep in the car.

Tips

About 20–30 minutes by car from Kayabuki-no-Sato, heading downstream along the Yura River. Both park and parking are free, with restrooms available on-site. During cherry blossom and autumn leaf festival periods, crowds gather; visiting early morning, evening, or outside festival dates offers a quieter experience. The embankment has significant height—hold small children's hands as you walk. The return route is near Kyoto Chuo Expressway's Kyotamba-Wachi IC for smooth access toward Kyoto.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Around 3 p.m., as the light turns soft before evening, the lake's surface shimmers beautifully
