About this spot

Designed by architect Hiroshi Bunyui and completed in 2010, this natural observation platform is entirely cypress wood. Shaped like a great tree, stepping inside its cypress branch-like frame, you experience dappled sunlight and refreshing mountain breezes. Advancing through the passage to the observation space offers 360-degree views of Rokko's ridges, Kobe's cityscape, and the sea. Hidden beneath the platform are ice chambers storing winter-accumulated ice to provide summer cooling, showcasing nature's clever energy systems—a learning opportunity. The novel experience of being "inside a giant tree" intrigues children, and photos framed by the structure are popular keepsakes.

Tips

A short walk from Rokko Garden Terrace; purchase tickets on-site. Interior slopes and steps require leaving strollers at the entrance and carrying children. Strong winds on certain days—secure hats. Combining with Garden Terrace offers seamless efficiency without extra travel time.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes. Late afternoon light makes the sea shimmer beautifully—ideal for views and photographs.
