About this spot
A public bathhouse that is something of a symbol of Arima Hot Spring, famous for its distinctive reddish-brown Kin-sen (golden spring), which is rich in iron and salt. This concentrated water, which turns reddish-brown when exposed to air, is well-known for its high heat-retention properties. Outside the building is a free foot bath called Taikō no Foot Bath (太閤の足湯), where you can easily experience the Kin-sen spring while sitting—perfect for a three-generation trip. Grandparents who don't enjoy long soaks and small grandchildren alike can enjoy the warmth of this famous hot spring simply by removing their shoes. There's also a spring water tasting corner, adding to the charm of a hot spring town. The area in front of the Japanese-style bathhouse has become a popular meeting spot while exploring the hot spring town.
Tips
Approximately 5-minute walk from Arimaonsen Station, located in the center of the hot spring town. The foot bath and tasting area outside the building are free, but towels are not provided—bring a hand towel. The foot bath gets crowded around midday, so early morning is ideal. If bathing inside the building, a separate bathing fee applies.
Best time to visit
Approximately 50 minutes. Morning hours until around 11 a.m., before the foot bath becomes crowded, are most comfortable.
