Around 4,000 toys from around the world. Mechanical dolls captivate both grandchildren and grandparents

About this spot

A museum across from Kin no Yu housing around 4,000 toys collected from around the world. Displays include intricately moving mechanical dolls (automata), German traditional nutcracker figures, tin toys, and warmly crafted wooden toys, with each floor presenting different themed collections. Many displays encourage hands-on play. When a wind-up mechanical doll springs to life, exclamations of wonder arise not just from grandchildren but from grandparents too. Occasional workshops and demonstrations by toy craftspeople are held, offering viewing, touching, and creating—a true three-generation hot spring town attraction. The perfect finale to a hot spring town exploration where time dissolves into play.

Tips

Located directly in front of Kin no Yu with excellent access. The exhibition floors are in the upper levels of the building but are reached by elevator, making it comfortable for grandparents and those with strollers. The 1st-floor museum shop can be visited without paying admission, so you can browse souvenirs without entering. Workshops have limited operating days, so check in advance if you wish to participate.
