About this spot
This expansive prefectural park, developed on the site of salt fields that continued from the Edo period, offers far more than its free admission would suggest. The amusement zone "Wakuwaku Land" features a large Ferris wheel as its symbol; the "Salt Kingdom" allows visitors to experience traditional salt-making; there's an animal interaction village where you can touch animals; plus large playground equipment and vast green spaces. Grandchildren can immerse themselves in play and animal interactions while grandparents enjoy seaside walks, allowing each of the three generations to find their own form of enjoyment. The view of the Seto Inland Sea and former salt fields from the observation wheel is uniquely Ako. The flat terrain makes it easy to navigate with strollers, and it's the perfect place to spend a leisurely afternoon after lunch.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Banshū-Ako Station; parking is available at a cost (roughly 500 yen for regular cars). Admission to the park itself is free, though rides in Wakuwaku Land, the animal interaction village, and salt-making experiences each require separate payment. The park is very spacious, so grab a map at the entrance and narrow your destinations to 2–3 spots to avoid fatigue. A picnic sheet is useful for grandparents to rest on the grass.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 2 hours. Arriving early in the afternoon after lunch and staying until it's time to head to Cape Ako-Misaki in the evening is ideal.
