End the day with views of the sunset over the Seto Inland Sea and the glimmering islands
About this spot
Included in the Seto Inland Sea National Park, this scenic spot is known as Ako's premier sunset viewing location. From the walkway at the cape, you can overlook the calm sea shimmering with light and the islands floating on the horizon. The "Kira-kira Slope" descending toward the sea is dotted with cafes and gift shops, perfect for a rest after a day of walking. The Iwa-tsu-hime Shrine perched on the cape with its impressive torii gate overlooking the sea is also recommended for a closing prayer to mark the end of your journey. As twilight approaches, the sky and sea slowly turn orange, creating a stunning scene that caps off a full day of walking for all three generations. The simple act of listening to the waves with grandchildren and grandparents standing side by side, waiting for the sunset, becomes the finest memory of this trip.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Banshū-Ako Station; free parking is available around the cape. If sunset is your goal, check the sunset time and aim to arrive 30 minutes beforehand. The Kira-kira Slope has stone steps and slopes, so sneakers are recommended. Evening sea breezes bring cooler temperatures, so bring a light jacket. Viewpoints are available near the parking area as well, so grandparents who find climbing difficult can enjoy the view from above without overexertion.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. The 30 minutes before sunset through the sunset itself, when the colors of the sky and sea shift moment by moment, is the most spectacular.
