Tour the aging warehouse for moromi and purchase aged soy sauce and Kinkakuji miso
About this spot
A soy sauce brewery run by Marushin Honke, an established maker of Kinkakuji miso, where you can tour the aging warehouse free of charge with moromi sleeping in large Yoshino cedar barrels. The moment you step into the warehouse, you're enveloped by a rich aroma. You can closely observe the moromi slowly aging in the large barrels—an experience unique to the birthplace of soy sauce. The shop displays aged soy sauce and Kinkakuji miso, said to be the origin of soy sauce making, in abundance. You can confirm flavors through tastings while selecting your favorite bottle. At this brewery, which produces signature products like Black Bean "Nama Ippon" and works with ambitious innovations noted by chefs worldwide, you can experience the present day of Yuasa soy sauce, where tradition and innovation coexist.
Tips
About 10 minutes' walk from JR Yuasa Station. Warehouse tours are free and can be done without reservations during the day, but contacting ahead is recommended for a detailed explanation. The shop allows you to sample while selecting, so enjoy exploring the taste differences. Since bottles are heavy and bulky, consider using delivery services for train or walking trips.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Early afternoon offers relatively relaxed viewing, and you may encounter glimpses of warehouse operations.
