Buy and enjoy the famous round loaf sandwich made with Showa-era techniques while walking
About this spot
Founded in 1951, Tsuruyapan is an established Lake North bakery renowned nationwide for its local specialty "salad pan," and has opened a round loaf bread specialty shop in central Nagahama. The signature item is their round loaf bread, baked continuously using the same methods since the 1950s. Baked in round molds to emerge fluffy and subtly sweet, these loaves are sliced and filled with ham cutlet, sweet bean paste, cream, and more, with sandwiches lined up in variety. The convenient single-hand size makes it perfect for strolling through the castle town, and it's fun to choose different flavors with friends and trade bites while walking. Since this iconic bread was previously only available at the main store in Kinomoto, having it within reach of the station makes it beloved by both locals and tourists. The retro and charming wrapping paper is also appreciated as a souvenir.
Tips
About 5 minutes walk from JR Nagahama Station, along the route toward Kurogane Square (黒壁スクエア). Popular sandwiches can sell out by early afternoon, so morning purchase is recommended. Enjoy your sandwich while strolling or at a nearby bench. Since you can also purchase the famous salad pan here, we recommend buying early for souvenirs.
Best time to visit
About 30 minutes required. It's best to stop by in the morning when sandwich varieties are fully available.
