Stroll Through the Carpet of Flowers Spread Across the Hillside; Tractor Bus Rides Are Popular

About this spot

A panoramic flower garden covering approximately 15 hectares in the rolling hills of Biei's Shinsei district. From spring through autumn, dozens of flower varieties—lavender, sunflowers, salvia, cockscomb—paint the hillside slopes in striped patterns, with the undulating flower carpet and the Tokachi Dake mountain range beyond creating a breathtaking panorama. In addition to walking paths, a tractor bus circles the grounds, and visitors can also operate their own carts, efficiently exploring the expansive site. At the entrance, large figures made from hay bales welcome visitors and serve as a photo op favorite. An alpaca farm (separate fee) is also on the grounds, and interacting with the fluffy alpacas is popular. Shops and light food options are available, making the spot perfect for resting while enjoying the flowers or grabbing a bite.

Tips

About 12 minutes by car from Biei Station; roughly 30 minutes from Shiragehige Falls via the hill roads. Do not enter the fields for photography—enjoy from designated pathways. The hilltop has little sun protection, so bring a hat and water. Tractor bus and cart reservations are handled on-site.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Daytime is best for vibrant flower colors. Combining lunch at the on-site food corner with a rest break makes for efficient time management.
