Kotaro Takamura's Final Sculpture - The Symbol of Lake Towada Standing on Gozennagahama Beach

Two bronze statues, each about 2.1 meters tall, standing on Gozennagahama Beach (御前ヶ浜) on the Lake Towada lakeside near Yasumiya. This is the final work created by sculptor and poet Kotaro Takamura (高村光太郎) in his final years, erected to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the national park designation. The two figures, with left hands joined and facing each other, seem to mirror one another. It's said the features of Takamura's wife, Chieko, are reflected in the models, and their silhouettes against the calm lake suggest a quiet narrative. Gozennagahama Beach is about a 10-minute walk from Yasumiya via the lakeside trail, near a cedar grove and Towada Shrine (十和田神社), making it an ideal destination for a lakeside stroll. In the evening, western light shimmers on the lake, creating a peaceful time perfect for closing the day.
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from Yasumiya boat station along the lakeside trail. The flat path is easy even for seniors and small children. With extra time, a visit to Towada Shrine (十和田神社) before the statue is recommended. Many shops and restaurants close early in the evening, so purchase souvenirs earlier for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour (including lakeside stroll). After 3 p.m., when the lake surface is touched by evening light, the atmosphere is most serene and beautiful.
