Rest and Refresh: Local Momo-buta Pork Specialties, Soft Serve Ice Cream, and Souvenir Shopping

About this spot

A rest area located right in front of the scenic Shichiaki Falls, along the Jukai Line heading toward Lake Towada from downtown Kosaka. The merchandise hall features processed goods made from Kosaka's specialty Momo-buta pork, acacia honey, and local mountain produce—perfect for selecting souvenirs unique to this former mining town. The restaurant is popular for dishes featuring Momo-buta pork, and soft serve ice cream is a treat for children during your drive break. Most importantly, the setting with its seven-tiered waterfall just a short walk from the parking lot is the real treasure—you can see the white cascade of water from the shop windows and terrace. After your historical exploration of downtown, this rest stop offers the perfect moment to be refreshed by green nature and flowing water.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from downtown Kosaka, located along Route 282, with free parking. Convenient as a rest stop on drives to Lake Towada. The restaurant has shorter hours than the merchandise hall, so allow extra time if planning to eat. Winter operating hours may change; check beforehand.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour. Perfect as an afternoon snack break. Combine with waterfall viewing for a relaxed experience.
