Shichiaki Falls: A Scenic Waterfall Flowing in Seven Tiers, One of Japan's 100 Finest Waterfalls
About this spot
Named for its seven tiers cascading approximately 60 meters, this representative waterfall of Kosaka Town is among Japan's 100 finest waterfalls. With exceptional access right in front of Michi-no-Eki Kosaka Shichiaki, even small children can easily walk from the parking lot directly to near the falls basin and experience the power of the waterfall. The water changes character as it falls tier by tier, and combined with surrounding greenery, it is picturesque and beautiful in every season. A small shrine dedicated to the dragon deity stands beside the falls, which has long been a site of faith. Bathe in abundance of negative ions and take commemorative photos to beautifully close out your day of railways and Meiji romance.
Tips
Just a short walk from Michi-no-Eki Kosaka Shichiaki. The walking path is maintained, but near the falls you may get wet from spray, so wear slip-resistant shoes. Even in summer, it's cool near the falls, so bringing a light layer is comfortable. Viewing is free and open to all.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. Scenic from fresh greenery through autumn foliage. Early evening light is softer with fewer crowds.
