Wine tasting and shop exploration at one of Tohoku's premier tourist wineries, searching for your favorite bottle
About this spot
This premier tourist winery represents Takahata Town, the region's major grape production area, and boasts one of Tohoku's largest scales. Takahata's significant temperature differences between day and night create ideal conditions for cultivating Delaware and Chardonnay grapes, and wines made from local grapes have earned numerous awards at domestic and international competitions. Inside the Southern European-style building, the shop displays an impressive selection of wines, and the tasting corner offers a wonderful opportunity for wine enthusiasts to discover their favorites. There are also viewing areas where you can observe the brewing equipment through glass, and a sales section for wine pairing snacks and sweets. Even non-drinkers can enjoy grape juice and soft-serve ice cream. Overlooking the vineyard and mountain range on the premises, this is a wonderful place to start your trip with a celebratory toast.
Tips
Approximately 5 minutes by car from Takahata Station on the Yamashino Shinkansen, with free parking available. Admission is free and you can tour the facility. Non-drivers can enjoy tastings while the driver can have grape juice instead. Since wine bottles are heavy, it's wise to reserve space in your car for a cooler bag or bulk purchases.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The early morning hours right after opening are less crowded, allowing you to leisurely browse both the tasting and shop areas.
