Taste and Select Souvenirs at the Hōmeiyu Brewery – Sweet Fragrance of Sixteen Medicinal Herbs

About this spot

A brewery continuing the production of hōmeiyu, Tomo no Ura's renowned medicinal wine. This sweetly fragrant liquor is made by infusing sixteen medicinal herbs into mirin-style sake crafted from glutinous rice, koji, and distilled spirit, having developed alongside the merchant culture of the tidal waiting port. Inside the shop, which retains traditional merchant-house architecture, bottles of hōmeiyu line the shelves alongside hōmeiyu candies and snacks, and at the counter you can sample flavors before purchasing. The retro label design makes an attractive souvenir, and the time spent together savoring and selecting becomes the perfect conclusion to your journey.

Tips

Since tastings contain alcohol, drivers should sample through hōmeiyu candy or confections instead. Bottles are heavy, so make this the final stop on your town walk. The street in front features latticed houses and is a pleasant evening stroll destination.

Best time to visit

Approximately 40 minutes. Evening light softly envelops the shop front, making this an ideal stop combined with your town walk.
