Immerse Yourself in the Gentle Poetic World of a Senzaki-Born Children's Song Poet

About this spot

This memorial hall showcases the life and works of Kaneko Misuzu, a children's song poet born in Senzaki. The building is a faithful restoration of the bookstore "Kaneko Buneido" (金子文英堂) where Misuzu grew up, welcoming visitors with its lattice doors, earthen floor, and a small upstairs room that preserve the original character. The main exhibition hall displays manuscript collections and related materials, allowing you to slowly immerse yourself in her poetic world—verses such as "Me and the Little Bird and the Bell" and "The Great Catch" penned with tender regard for small lives. The charm of experiencing not just the poet's memory, which the town of Senzaki collectively preserves, is deepened by the Misuzu Street that extends in front of the hall, lined with plaques bearing verses and local shops.

Tips

Located about a 10-minute walk from the sightseeing boat pier, it's best visited as part of a stroll down Misuzu Street. The museum has areas where you remove your shoes, so wearing easily removable footwear is comfortable. As the dedicated parking lot has limited spaces, walking from the port's parking areas is also an option.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. The late morning period after disembarking from the cruise is relatively uncrowded, allowing for a leisurely viewing of the displays.
