About this spot
This walking trail extends from Shizukaura on the eastern part of Aōumi Island (青海島) up to the clifftop, allowing you to view the "Alpine Seascape" vistas you admired from the ship this morning from the land above. Along the trail, distinctive rock formations such as the Elephant's Nose and Seagull Rock appear in succession, and from the observation points, an impressive landscape unfolds where white waves crash against the deep indigo Japan Sea. The path through the pine forest is pleasantly dappled with light, and the walk is wonderfully refreshing, surrounded by the scent of the shore and the sound of waves. The true appeal of this course is the opportunity to deepen your appreciation of Aōumi Island's sculptural beauty—created by waves and wind—by overlaying the views seen from the sea with those seen from the land.
Tips
Use the parking area at Shizukaura, the starting point (may charge during busy periods). The trail has stairs and rocky areas, so sturdy, comfortable hiking shoes are essential. Shade is limited, so bring a hat and drinking water.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes required. In the afternoon, the sea side catches the light favorably, and the contrast between the cliffs and the sea becomes striking.
