Island's Premier White-Sand Beach Overlooking Shallow Turquoise Waters

About this spot

Stretching along Taketomi Island's west coast, this white-sand beach defines the island's character. Fine, powdery white sand gives way to emerald-green shallow waters extending seemingly endlessly; at low tide, white sandbars emerge, enriching the seascape. The calm waters and gentle waves make it ideal for families and water play. Island cats often nap in the shade, embodying the leisurely island atmosphere that melts your heart. Just a short walk away lies Kaiji Beach (カイジ浜), famous for star-shaped sand grains—a delightful treasure hunt as you search the sand for these natural starlets. A place where time dissolves into the sea's embrace.

Tips

Nearby Kaiji Beach has strong currents and is off-limits for swimming; stick to star-sand hunting there. Don't collect sand to take home—purchase star-sand souvenirs from gift shops. With little shade, bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty to drink.

Best time to visit

Total time: approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Visit at low tide when sandbars appear offshore, creating the most spectacular seascape.
