Walk along the historic old post road where traces of Edo-period inn town remain
About this spot
Hirakata-juku was a post town on the Kyoto Kaido (an extension of the Tokaido) that connected Kyoto and Osaka during the Edo period. The Kagiya Document Museum, located in the center of the old Hirakata-juku, is a municipal museum that utilizes the building of the historic "Kagiya," a ryokan-style restaurant that has operated since the Edo period. Here you can learn about the lifestyle of the post town at that time and the boat transport culture of the Yodo River. The name "Kurawanka boat" comes from the small boats that called out to travelers crossing the Yodo River, "Mochi kurawanka (Would you like some mochi?)," and is also the origin of tonight's fireworks festival name. Starting from the museum and taking a short walk along the old post road, you can feel the depth of Hirakata's history. Learning the origin of the fireworks festival's name before you begin your day will make the evening fireworks even more meaningful.

Tips
