気仙沼みなとまつりのクライマックスを飾る、気仙沼湾の海上からの打ち上げ花火です。リアス式海岸の入り組んだ湾に三方を山で囲まれた地形が音を反響させ、港町全体に花火の轟音が広がります。海上から打ち上がる花火は湾の水面にも映り、夜の気仙沼港を幻想的な光景に変えます。地元の人々と観光客が一緒になって港のにぎわいを楽しむ、気仙沼の夏を代表するおまつりの夜です。三陸の潮の香りと波音に包まれながら見上げる花火は、この港町でしか味わえない特別な体験です。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否や開始時刻は気仙沼市みなとまつり実行委員会の公式発表で必ず確認を。終了後は気仙沼駅方面への道と駐車場周辺が大変混雑します。花火終了後はしばらく港で余韻を楽しんでから帰路につく時間差帰宅がおすすめです。夜の岸壁は足元が暗い箇所があるため、スマートフォンのライトなどで安全に歩きましょう。

Tips

About 15 minutes on foot from JR Kesennuma Station (気仙沼駅), or about 5 minutes by taxi. On the festival day, there are many visitors and restaurants become crowded, so visiting around noon or earlier is recommended. Dishes using shark fin are a specialty unique to Kesennuma, so be sure to try them. It's convenient to purchase souvenirs at this time before the evening crowds build up.
