A museum adjacent to Tsuruoka Park that conveys the history and culture of the Shonai region. The grounds preserve relocated Meiji-era Western-style buildings, including the Former Nishitakagawa County Office and the Former Tsuruoka Police Station, both designated as National Important Cultural Properties; simply walking around viewing the architecture is impressive. Exhibits also include samurai residences, farmhouses, folk tools, and household implements from Shonai, allowing both adults and children to tangibly feel the history of daily life in Shonai. The spacious outdoor exhibition area is perfect for leisurely spending the afternoon before the fireworks festival at a relaxed pace.

山形県鶴岡市の赤川河畔を舞台に、毎年8月15日に開催される赤川花火大会です。約12,000発の花火が羽黒橋から三川橋の間の川上空に打ち上げられ、山形を代表する夏の大花火として多くの家族連れや観覧客が集まります。この大会の最大の特長は「競技花火」としての側面で、全国から腕利きの花火師がエントリーし、スターマインや尺玉など各演目で技を競います。花火師ごとに異なる色彩やデザインの変化を楽しみながら観覧できるのが、他の花火大会とひと味違う醍醐味です。川面に映る光と夜空に開く大輪が重なる瞬間、庄内の夏の夜は最高潮を迎えます。

Tips

有料観覧席は例年早期に完売するため、公式サイトで販売開始日を必ず確認して早めに購入してください。自由観覧エリアは無料ですが場所取りが早くなります。終演後は周辺道路が大渋滞するため、公共交通機関の利用か、時間をずらしての帰宅をおすすめします。荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表で確認してください。

Tips

Located immediately northeast of Tsuruoka Park; you can access it directly from your park stroll. Admission is approximately 800 yen for adults (verify on the official website as prices may change). Since there are many outdoor exhibits, don't forget a hat and sunscreen. The museum shop also sells books and folk crafts related to Shonai.
