About this spot

A shrine situated on the former main citadel site of Yonezawa Castle, dedicated to Lord Uesugi Kenshin (上杉謙信公). It was established and developed by Uesugi Kagekatsu (上杉景勝), the first feudal lord of the Yonezawa domain, alongside the castle, and remains deeply cherished by Yonezawa residents today. Passing through the impressive gate at the entrance, you find the main hall standing solemnly within the serene grounds. Adjacent to the grounds is Matsugasaki Shrine (松岬神社), which enshrines Uesugi Takayama (上杉鷹山公), creating a space symbolic of Yonezawa domain's history. Visiting this site of a Sengoku warlord will further heighten your anticipation for tonight's "Sengoku Fireworks Festival."

よねざわ戦国花火大会は、上杉氏の城下町・米沢を舞台に毎年開催される秋の大花火大会です。2026年は10月10日(土)18時30分より米沢市営野球場を会場に開催されます。戦国武将が駆け抜けた米沢の地に響く打ち上げ音は迫力満点で、秋の澄んだ夜空に映える花火の色と光は格別の美しさです。10月の米沢は夜間の気温がぐっと下がるため、防寒をしっかり整えたうえで観覧しましょう。戦国の歴史を昼にたどり、夜は花火で締めくくる、米沢らしいクライマックスです。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表をご確認ください。10月の米沢の夜は気温が10度前後まで下がることがあるため、防寒着・手袋・マフラーを必ず持参してください。終了後は周辺道路と米沢駅が混雑するため、時間差での帰路がおすすめです。帰りの電車・バスの時刻は事前に確認しておきましょう。

Tips

About 10 minutes by bus or taxi from JR Yonezawa Station (JR米沢駅), or about 25 minutes on foot. Admission to pay respects is free. If you wish to receive a shrine stamp, please check the office hours in advance. Parking is available in multiple locations around the shrine.
