About this spot

A ropeway connecting the city of Onomichi to the mountaintop observation deck of Senkoiji Park in approximately 3 minutes. From inside the gondola, the cityscape of Onomichi and the Onomichi Channel spread out below you, and upon reaching the summit, you're greeted with outstanding views extending all the way to Mukaishima Island. If you confirm from the high vantage point during daytime where the fireworks will be launched from the Sumiyoshi Shrine area tonight, your evening viewing experience will be all the more enjoyable. From the mountaintop observation deck, you can survey the islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea, and on clear summer days, you may even catch a glimpse of the mountain ranges of Shikoku in the distance.

おのみち住吉花火まつりは、住吉神社の祭礼に合わせて尾道水道の海上から打ち上げられる夏の大会で、約13,000発の花火が1時間にわたって夜空を彩ります。幅の狭い尾道水道から見上げる花火は臨場感が抜群で、打ち上げ音が港町の建物に反響して体に響く迫力も格別です。穏やかな内海の水面に映える逆さ花火は、瀬戸内の花火大会ならではの美しさ。対岸の向島をバックに次々と開く大輪は、昼間ロープウェイから眺めた同じ海とは思えない別世界の光景です。住吉神社の祭りのにぎわいとともに、夏の尾道の夜を満喫しましょう。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は大会公式発表で確認を。終了後は会場周辺と尾道駅へ向かう道が大変混み合います。フィナーレ後はその場で少し余韻を楽しんでから動き出す時間差帰宅がおすすめです。JR尾道駅のほか、会場から徒歩圏内の複数の出口を事前に確認しておくと混雑時に役立ちます。足元が暗いのでスマホのライトで安全に移動を。

Tips

The base station is right near Nagae-guchi bus stop. Round-trip fare is approximately 500 yen for adults (as of 2024). Since you can descend the mountain on foot from the summit via Senkoiji and the Path of Literature, walking down on the return allows you to savor the atmosphere of the town even more. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. It's just a short walk from here to the next stop, Senkoiji.
