This is the heart of Takehara, which prospered from the salt and sake industries from the Edo period through the Meiji era, and has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings by the nation. Traditional merchant houses with white-plastered walls and black latticed windows remain as they were in the past, and simply walking the stone-paved alleys allows you to feel the air of history. Experience firsthand why it is called "Aki no Shokyo" as you leisurely stroll about. Takehara is widely known as the setting for an NHK morning drama series and is beloved by both tourists and locals. Even on hot summer afternoons, the white-walled alleys allow breezes to flow through, making them relatively cool to traverse.

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は竹原市または大会主催者の公式発表で当日確認を。終了後は観覧客が一斉に移動するため、JR竹原駅周辺が混雑します。花火終了後は少し時間をおいてから移動するか、乗車予定の電車の時刻を事前に確認しておくと安心です。足元は暗くなるため、スマホのライトを活用してください。

Tips

Approximately 15 minutes on foot from JR Takehara Station, or a few minutes by local bus or taxi from the station front. Admission is free and you can explore at your leisure. The alleys are paved with stone, so wear comfortable walking shoes. It's reassuring to purchase beverages around the station or near Takehara Port beforehand.
