About this spot
The 23rd temple on the Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage Route, this ancient temple dedicated to warding off misfortune is said to have been founded in the Nara period. The stone steps leading into the temple grounds, called the "Yaku-zaka" (Misfortune Slope), are adorned with one-yen coins left as offerings, creating a unique pilgrimage scene. Beyond the three-story pagoda and main hall stands the Yugi Pagoda (瑜祇塔), a two-tiered pagoda that can be accessed for a fee. From its summit, the townscape of Hiwasa and the blue Pacific Ocean spread out before you. You can also see the Ohama Beach area where tonight's fireworks will be launched, making this a luxurious moment to survey the evening's stage from an elevated vantage point at the start of your day. Throughout the year, many pilgrims visit the temple grounds, where you can leisurely enjoy the historic atmosphere.

開催時間は当日の公式案内で確認してください(時間未定のため)。荒天時の開催可否も公式の発表を確認しましょう。終了後はJR日和佐駅や周辺道路が混み合うため、列車の時刻は事前に調べておくことをおすすめします。帰りの浜辺は足元が暗いので、スマートフォンのライトや小型ライトがあると安全です。
Tips
About a 10-minute walk from JR Hiwasa Station. Climbing the Yugi Pagoda requires a small fee (around a few hundred yen) and is worthwhile if you want to enjoy the views. The stone steps have varying heights, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There is also parking nearby, making it easily accessible by car as well.
Best time to visit
Takes approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. In the afternoon light, the ocean blue appears especially vivid.
