The central shopping district surrounding Ashikaga School and Bannaoji Temple features streetscapes with a history as a production center for Ashikaga silk brocade. Traditional shops and local Japanese sweet shops are scattered throughout, making this the perfect area to stop for light shopping and a rest before the evening fireworks festival. Vendor stalls are often set up around the festival site on the day of the event, ideal for gathering light snacks in preparation for the evening. If you feel tired from walking, take a break at a coffee shop or traditional sweet shop to recharge your energy before heading to Tamagawa Sports Park in the evening.

足利花火大会は約20,000発を誇る関東屈指の規模の花火大会で、渡良瀬川の広い河川敷から遮るものなく夜空を見上げられるのが最大の魅力です。川幅いっぱいに広がるワイドスターマインや、音楽と同期した仕掛け花火など演目も多彩で、19時15分から20時50分まで1時間35分にわたって打ち上げが続きます。対岸や頭上近くまで迫る迫力は、都市部の花火大会にはない豪快さです。フィナーレの超特大スターマインが渡良瀬川の夜空を埋め尽くす瞬間は、この1日のクライマックスにふさわしい絶景です。
Tips
荒天時は中止または延期になる場合があるため、当日の開催可否は足利市の公式発表で確認してください。終了後は東武足利市駅・JR足利駅への帰路が大変混雑します。フィナーレ後は少し待機して混雑が落ち着いてから移動するか、時間差帰宅がおすすめです。足元が暗くなるので、スマホのライトや小型懐中電灯があると安心です。

Within a 5-minute walk from Bannaoji Temple. On the festival day, nearby parking lots fill up early. If using public transportation, Tobu Ashikaga City Station or JR Ashikaga Station is convenient. Stocking up on convenience store items and beverages here helps you avoid congestion around the main venue.
