A UNESCO World Heritage shrine that honors Tokugawa Ieyasu and represents Nikko. As you pass through the main gate, the Yomeimon Gate (also called the "Gate of Sunset") appears before you—an awe-inspiring structure featuring over 500 colorfully carved sculptures. Notable features are scattered throughout, including the carvings of the three wise monkeys and the famous sleeping cat behind the Chinese gate. As you climb the stone steps toward the inner mausoleum, you find yourself in a quiet shrine surrounded by massive cedar trees where Ieyasu rests, and the air remains cool and refreshing even in midsummer. Note that touring the shrine takes surprisingly longer than expected, so plan accordingly with plenty of time.

2026年8月8日(土)19時開幕、日光だいや川公園・丸山公園を会場に約5,000発が打ち上がる日光花火大会です。山あいに位置する会場は音が四方の山に反響し、花火の炸裂音が体に響く独特の迫力があります。大谷川の川面に映る光の揺らぎも山間の花火大会ならではの見せ場で、広い公園の芝生から見上げる花火は視界いっぱいに広がる大迫力。夏の日光の夜空を彩るフィナーレの連発が終わったあとも、澄んだ山の空気の中でしばらく余韻を楽しんでください。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は日光市・大会主催者の公式発表で確認してください。終了後は会場周辺の道路が混雑するため、シャトルバスや帰りの電車の時刻を事前に確認しておきましょう。終了直後の混雑を避けるために、フィナーレ後は公園内で少し時間をおいてから移動するのがおすすめです。足元が暗くなるため、帰り道は小さなライトが役立ちます。

Tips

From Tobu Nikko Station or JR Nikko Station, take a bus for approximately 10 minutes or walk approximately 30 minutes. Admission is 1,300 yen for adults (including inner mausoleum viewing). The grounds are extensive with many stone steps, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Follow the one-way traffic guides on the crowded stone steps of the approach. Early afternoon is a relatively quieter time for visitors.
