The Yatsushiro National Fireworks Competition (やつしろ全国花火競技大会) is a serious competitive event where fireworks masters selected from across the nation compete, boasting approximately 14,000 fireworks—an overwhelming number—and is one of Kyushu's premier fireworks festivals. The fireworks competed across diverse categories such as star mines and 10-inch shells are all highly refined, and the light reflected on the nearby Kumagawa's water is distinctly beautiful. For 2.5 hours on a crisp autumn night sky where large blooms open in succession, competitive fireworks enjoyed alongside the river breeze bring a dignified emotion different from summer. During the finale's rapid bursts, the entire night sky becomes enveloped in light, creating an awe-inspiring scene befitting the day's journey's climax.

In case of severe weather or high water levels, the event may be cancelled or postponed; confirm whether it will be held on the official festival website or Yatsushiro City information on the morning of the event. Surrounding roads and parking lots become extremely congested after the event ends. If using public transportation, check the return bus and train schedules in advance, and it's recommended to wait a bit before leaving after the finale. October nights cool down significantly, so wear a jacket when viewing.
