About this spot
A lake about 3 kilometers in circumference spread out just below Kairakuen, serving as a haven for Mito citizens. A well-maintained promenade runs along the shore where waterfowl such as whooper and mute swans can be observed swimming peacefully up close. Descending from Kairakuen, you quickly reach the lakeshore, and walking the promenade while enjoying the broad water expanse is a pleasant experience for both children and adults. Tonight's fireworks will be launched from this very lakeshore, so confirming the viewing areas and vendor positions in daylight ensures smoothness later in the evening.

水戸黄門まつりのフィナーレを飾る、千波湖を舞台にした花火大会です。2026年7月25日(土)19時30分から20時30分まで、約5,000発が夜空を彩ります。湖面の水鏡に映る逆さ花火は湖上祭ならではの美しさで、広い湖畔のどこからでも正面に花火を楽しめます。水戸黄門まつりは徳川光圀公をしのぶ夏祭りとして水戸市民に長く親しまれており、花火大会はその最大のクライマックスです。フィナーレのスターマインが湖と空を一緒に照らし出す瞬間は、1日の歩みが重なって感動もひとしおです。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は水戸市の公式発表で確認してください。終了後は湖畔周辺の道路と水戸駅方面のバスが大変混雑します。フィナーレ後は湖畔でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから、時間差で帰宅するのがおすすめです。足元が暗くなるためライトを用意し、子連れは手をつないで移動しましょう。

The lakeside promenade is reached in approximately 5 minutes on foot from Kairakuen. The promenade is about 3 kilometers around, but even just walking back and forth along the lake's north shore provides ample enjoyment. Summer midday sun is strong, so don't forget a hat and water. Benches are scattered along the shore for resting while you walk.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour. You can leisurely enjoy the quiet daytime lake surface and waterfowl.
