About this spot
An ancient temple standing right beside Amanohashidate Station (天橋立駅), counted among the three great Monju temples of Japan. It is known as the origin of the saying that three people together have the wisdom of Monju, and enshrines Monju Bosatsu (文殊菩薩), the bodhisattva who grants wisdom, as its principal image. Passing through the temple gate, a stately multi-treasure pagoda greets you, and the grounds have plenty of tree shade, keeping the atmosphere comfortable even on a summer morning. Located at the entrance to Amanohashidate (天橋立), it is a worship spot fitting for a safe journey and the start of the day.

日本三景・天橋立の砂州沿いに広がる海水浴場で、2026年は7月18日(土)から8月16日(日)まで開設されます。遊泳時間は9時から17時までで、遊泳そのものは無料です。松並木を背にした穏やかな遠浅の浜が続き、駐車場・シャワー・トイレ・脱衣所が整い、場所によっては海の家も利用できます。午前に見下ろした白砂青松の景色を、今度は実際に足で踏みしめながら泳げるのがこのコースならではの楽しみです。波打ち際の水遊びから砂遊びまで、夕方まで思いきり夏を満喫しましょう。
Tips
天橋立駅や智恩寺から徒歩圏内で、砂州沿いに複数の遊泳エリアがあります。遊泳は無料ですが駐車場は別途料金がかかるので、事前に駐車場所を決めておくとスムーズです。遊泳時間は17時までなので、着替えの時間を見込んで15分前には切り上げましょう。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルを忘れずに。
Tips
About a 3-minute walk from Amanohashidate Station (天橋立駅). The grounds can be visited free of charge, with a separate fee only for viewing the multi-treasure pagoda. Many visitors also seek charms at the amulet office, so praying in the morning before it gets busy is recommended.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. The 10 o'clock hour, right after the gate opens, lets you pray calmly
