Observe a wild troop of Japanese macaques up close

About this spot

Located just off Tanonura Beach, on the border between Oita City and Beppu City, Takasaki Mountain is home to a nature zoo where you can observe wild Japanese macaques up close. Multiple troops live on the mountain, and at the feeding grounds you can see the hierarchy of the troops centered around the alpha male and grooming behavior from a close distance. Children will be captivated by the endearing gestures of the macaques begging for food. Spend some time before your beach swim with natural observation unique to Oita.

大分市の田ノ浦ビーチは、2026年は7月1日(水)から8月31日(月)まで開設され、遊泳時間は9時から17時までです。高崎山のふもと、別府湾に面した砂浜で、ライフセーバーが常駐しているのが家族連れにとって心強いポイント。遊泳は無料で、駐車場と屋外シャワーも無料で利用できます。荷物や着替えの管理にはロッカー(大300円・小200円)、砂や潮を流すには温水シャワー(3分100円)が便利です。レストハウスもあるので、休憩をはさみながら夕方までゆったり海を楽しめます。

Tips

高崎山・うみたまごから徒歩圏内でアクセスしやすいビーチです。遊泳は無料ですが、ロッカーと温水シャワーは有料なので小銭を用意しておきましょう。遊泳時間は17時までなので、着替えの時間も見込んで16時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。

Tips

Within walking distance from Tanonura Beach. There are slopes from the entrance to the feeding grounds, so a baby carrier backpack may be easier to move around in than a stroller. The summer sun is strong, so don't forget a hat and hydration.
