Rest and Relax at White Sandy Tanonura Beach
About this spot
A seaside park with a sweeping white sandy beach along National Route 10, right next to Takasaki Mountain and Umitamago. As an artificial beach, it features fine sand, a promenade, a lawn plaza, and a bridge to a small island offshore, making it an enjoyable place to explore even outside swimming season. Walking along the water's edge while gazing across Beppu Bay at the opposite shore and passing ships naturally eases the fatigue from walking around the aquarium and zoo. Children will surely be absorbed in sand play and shell collecting. A delightful spot to visit during a drive to enjoy the sea breeze, beloved by local residents as a place of rest.
Tips
Free parking is available, but the beach can be crowded on weekends during swimming season. If playing on the beach, bring spare shoes for children, towels, and sand toys. There is little shade, so bring hats and water during summer months.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Afternoon sunlight makes the sea sparkle beautifully during a sandy beach walk.
