Morning worship at the grove enshrining Emperor Jinmu, with heart refreshed along the gravel path
About this spot
This shrine enshrines Emperor Jinmu, said to be Japan's first emperor, and has long been cherished by locals as "Jinmu-sama." Although located within the city, the shrine grounds are enveloped by a deep grove, and as you walk straight down the gravel-lined approach path, an austere shrine building gradually appears between the trees. Standing before the architecturally restrained and dignified main hall, your posture naturally straightens. The grounds also feature a Large Wisteria (オオシラフジ), designated as a national natural monument, and its gentle fragrance drifts through the grove during blooming season. Begin your full day of experiencing Miyazaki—the mythical homeland—by first centering your spirit in this grove.
Tips
In the early morning, the shrine has few visitors and you can have the quiet grove all to yourself. Since the gravel approach path is long, wearing comfortable walking shoes is advisable. The location is close to the city center with good bus access, and there is parking available around the shrine grounds.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour. Early morning when the air is freshest offers the most serene and refreshing worship experience.
