The historic site of the Ashikaga School (足利学校) in central Ashikaga City is a historical facility said to be the oldest school in Japan. It has the Taiseiden hall enshrining Confucius and exhibits conveying how learning was carried out at the time, and its calm appearance of white walls and tiled roofs makes it a pleasant place to walk even on a hot summer morning. The grounds form a well-tended garden with plenty of shade, so families with small children can get around without strain. Before playing hard at the pool, it is the perfect spot to settle everyone's mood with some quiet time.

足利市の渡良瀬ウオーターパーク「わたらせビーチ」は、水深80cmまでの遠浅ビーチが自慢の屋外レジャープールです。2026年は7月4日・5日、7月11日・12日、そして7月18日から8月31日までの営業で、営業時間は10:00から12:30まで(毎週木曜休園、8月13日・27日は営業)。波打ち際のような浅瀬は小さな子でも歩きやすく、家族みんなで水をかけ合ったり浮き輪で浮かんだりと、限られた時間の中でも夏らしい水遊びをたっぷり楽しめます。隣接するエコアールグリーンプラザには更衣室があるので、着替えの荷物を気にせず身軽に来られるのもうれしいところです。入場料は大人220円、中学生以下80円、未就学児は無料と手頃で、気軽に立ち寄れる地元の夏の定番スポットです。

Tips

営業は10:00から12:30までの午前枠なので、10:30ごろの入場でも余裕を持って遊べます。更衣室は隣接のエコアールグリーンプラザを利用し、貴重品の管理は各自で。木曜は定休日(8月13日・27日を除く)なので、来園前に営業日を確認しておくと安心です。

Tips

Allow roughly 30 to 45 minutes for a visit. In summer, mornings are cooler and easier to walk, so the hours right after opening are recommended. There is also a shop inside, so hunting for a small keepsake is part of the fun.
