About this spot

An ancient shrine located near the center of Shika Island, dedicated to the sea deity. It is said to be the main shrine of all Watatsumi Shrines throughout Japan and has long been worshipped by fishermen and people connected to the sea. As you climb the stone steps surrounded by trees, a vermilion-painted shrine building appears in the quiet precincts. From the precincts, you can feel the greenery of Shika Island and the presence of Genkai Nada, allowing you to pray with a clear, refreshed feeling appropriate for beginning a full day of sea play.

福岡市東区勝馬にある下馬ヶ浜海水浴場は、2026年は7月11日(土)から8月16日(日)まで開設されます。休暇村志賀島に隣接し、約800mにわたって続く白砂のビーチが特徴で、玄界灘ならではの澄んだ海と開放的な景色が広がります。砂浜での波遊びに加えて磯遊びも楽しめるのがこの浜の魅力で、岩場をのぞけば小さな貝やカニに出会えることも。福岡市街地から橋一本でアクセスできる島でありながら、都市部の喧騒を忘れられる静かな海辺の時間を過ごせます。

Tips

休暇村志賀島に隣接しているため、休憩や食事の利用も検討できます。砂浜は日差しを遮るものが少ないので、パラソルや帽子、日焼け止めをしっかり用意しましょう。磯遊びをする場合はケガ防止にマリンシューズがあると安心です。福岡市内からは車のほか、志賀島行きのバスでもアクセスできます。

Tips

It is within walking distance from the ferry terminal and settlements of Shika Island. Stone steps are present, so strollers are fine up to the entrance of the precincts. Summer mornings have plenty of shade and are relatively comfortable, but don't forget to hydrate.
