Worship at Kabuashima Shrine Amid Cries of Seagulls
About this spot
Located right next to Kabuashima Beach, atop a rocky mountain, this shrine is nationally known as a breeding ground for Japanese black-tailed gulls. From May to July, seagull activity is particularly high, and the grounds echo with their cries. Climbing the stone steps reveals a vermilion shrine hall with sweeping ocean views. Start your day by offering prayers for safe travels before heading to the beach.

八戸市の蕪島に隣接する海水浴場で、2026年は7月25日(土)から8月26日(水)まで開設。営業時間は9時から17時までで、更衣室とシャワーは16時30分まで利用できます。遊泳は無料で、着替えや水浴びの設備が整っているため、家族連れでも気軽に海水浴を楽しめます。すぐそばには観光施設「かぶーにゃ」もあり、休憩や買い物にも便利です。波打ち際での水遊びから、寄せ返す波を眺めるひとときまで、八戸の海を夕方まで満喫しましょう。
Tips
更衣室・シャワーの利用は16時30分までなので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時ごろには海から上がるのがおすすめです。遊泳時間は17時まで。夏の砂浜は熱くなるのでビーチサンダルを忘れずに。
Tips
Just a short walk from Kabuashima Beach. Stone steps are fairly steep, so hold young children's hands. During peak seagull season, hats are recommended.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes. Early morning visits are quieter and more peaceful.
