A merchant town in Sadamitsu that preserves the atmosphere of the Edo to Meiji periods, known nationwide for its rare architectural style where firebreak walls (udatsu) on the roofs extend to the second-floor level. Merchant houses that once thrived through the trade of Awa indigo dye and tobacco line the streets, and a simple walk gives you a sense of the bustle of bygone days. The Sadamitsu River, where fireworks will later light up the sky, is just beside this townscape.

荒天時は中止・延期の可能性があるため、事前につるぎ町の公式発表を確認しましょう。終了後は駐車場や周辺道路が混み合うため、時間差での帰宅がおすすめです。足元が暗いのでスマホのライトがあると安全です。

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from JR Sadamitsu Station. The townscape has narrow streets, so caution is needed when driving. Since summer sun is intense, take frequent breaks.
