Pay Respects at an Ancient Temple in the Mountains, Walk Forest Trails Surrounded by Deep Green
About this spot
A Tendai Buddhist temple in the mountains of Mitoku-zan with a founding tradition dating back to 706, featuring temple buildings scattered throughout. It is known for the "Nageire-do" (Stacked Hall) built clinging to a cliff face, visible even from the approach path. The temple grounds are enveloped in deep cedar groves, creating a cool atmosphere different from the world below. As you visit the historic halls, experience a moment of feeling the spiritual energy of the mountain.

Tips

About 15 minutes by car from Mitsuraku Onsen Town. The hiking trail around Nageire-do is steep; if you lack confidence in your fitness or attire, limit your visit to paying respects along the approach path. A separate entrance fee is required.
Best time to visit
Takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. Daytime when it's bright is best for sightseeing and exploring.
