In the Polar Bear Building, you might witness the thrilling moment of a massive polar bear diving into the water. The "Mogumugu Time" feeding demonstrations, where staff provide commentary while feeding the animals, are a must-see, allowing you to observe the animals at their most active and animated. The zoo spreads across the slope of Asahiyama mountain and features a children's farm-like area with play equipment and well-stocked shops. Even families with small children can enjoy a full half day here—it's the must-visit attraction in Asahikawa.

Tips

About 30 minutes by car from Asahikawa Station, with direct bus service available. The grounds have many slopes, so a baby carrier may be more practical than a stroller, and comfortable walking shoes are essential. Check the feeding times posted at the entrance or in pamphlets to plan your route. Admission is free for middle school students and under, about 1,000 yen for adults. Opening hours vary by summer and winter seasons, so check ahead. The zoo is most crowded right after opening.
