About this spot

The head shrine of over 40,000 Hachiman shrines nationwide, with a history dating back to 725. The expansive grounds feature both upper and lower shrines where vermillion-painted structures and lush greenery create an impressive landscape. With numerous notable features including the main hall designated as a National Treasure, there is much to see. During the Summer Festival period, the entire shrine grounds take on a special atmosphere filled with visitors seeking purification blessings. Take your time with a leisurely visit.

2026年8月2日(日)開催、宇佐神宮の夏越祭りを締めくくる厄除花火大会です。打ち上げ数は公表されていませんが、20分間にわたって夜空に打ち上がる花火は、神域という特別な場所で見上げるからこそのおごそかな趣があります。厄除けを願う祭りのフィナーレとして、地域の人々に長く親しまれてきた花火です。神社の杜のシルエットと花火が重なる光景は、この地ならではの眺めです。

Tips

荒天時は中止・順延となる場合があるため、当日の開催可否は主催の発表で確認を。境内周辺は大変混雑するため、公共交通機関の利用がおすすめです。終了後は帰りの道が混み合うため、時間差での移動がスムーズです。

Tips

About 10 minutes by bus from JR Usa Station. The shrine grounds are spacious, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. In summer, choosing shaded areas makes for a cooler visit.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes required. The path to the upper shrine has stairs, so take frequent breaks.
