Retro Café Time at a Historic Lakeside Villa
About this spot
A lakeside park showcasing a mountain villa originally built as the Italian Ambassador's retreat in the early Showa period. From the broad verandah of the beautifully constructed cedar-bark-clad building, Lake Chuzenji's stunning scenery unfolds across a timber pier. The café inside the building provides a peaceful rest with views of the lake, and the woodland footpath is perfect for leisurely strolls with children.
Tips
From Utaigahama parking lot, it's approximately a 10-minute walk along a wooden boardwalk, so a baby carrier is recommended over a stroller. A combination ticket with the adjacent British Ambassador's Villa Memorial Park offers good value.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 60 minutes. The afternoon light when the lake's surface shimmers is especially beautiful.
